Deck Staining & Painting

Staining your deck is a budget friendly way to preserve the wood of your deck and extending the life of your deck investment.
Commercial wood stains contain a preservative and do not require a primer. Wood stain is transparent to semi-opaque and forms a film over a wooden deck. Prep for staining your wood deck requires sweeping, pressure washing, and replacing any damaged wood. Stained decks look natural.

Deck paint fills deck wood pores and has an opaque finish. It can hide and cover cracks and hides wood grain. This gives your deck a more manufactured look and a non-wood finish. There are many shades and hues of deck paint so you can get a deck color that pops or matches your siding or trim. Paint is harder to apply, requires a primer, and at least two coats paint, then a clear sealer over the top of the paint to weatherize the deck.

Deck Coating

A third option is to use a high-build deck coating designed to protect, resurface, and repel water from a concrete or wood deck. Deck coating can be used on old concrete or wood surfaces and over existing deck stain or deck paint. Deck coating helps seal unstable cracks and surface wood damage. You have probably seen coated truck beds – deck coating products contain a durable polyurethane blend that is highly resistant, flexible, and UV protected to be used in extreme conditions. Workshop floors, decks, and more can be covered with deck coating and provide a valuable asset to your home or office deck.
