Fence Finish – Paint or Stain?
The type of fence finish you choose will depend on your home style, landscape, and longevity of the finish you wish. “Finishing” a fence comes in three basic options: Paint, Stain, or Natural.
Painting might be the least expensive initially but can also require more upkeep and maintenance. You can expect to repaint every 2-3 years as paint can crack and peel under the pressure of the weather and climate.
Paint Staining is more viable as it lasts much longer than paint. It costs more upfront, but it lasts! Fence stains will eventually fade and need to be redone.
While the natural look – not using anything on the wood – leaves a popular rustic look, the wood can deteriorate faster. A good pressure washing can help restore the wood by removing moss, mildew, and dirt.
